( Patterns and Grammar Notes )
 
1.  V. + (¾î/¾Æ)Á® ÀÖ´Ù 

=> "being in (changed state or position of)" 

This helping verb describes the changed state of an object or an event. All verbs that end in -(¾î/¾Æ)Áö´Ù can have this construction, but not all verbs can end in -(¾î/¾Æ)Á® ÀÖ´Ù. (See L5, GN3 and L12, GN2.)

  • ³ª´©¾îÁ® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something was divided and is still divided" 
  • ¼¼¿öÁ® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something was established and is still established"
  • ¶³¾îÁ® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something was separated and is still separated"
  • ³Ñ¾îÁ® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something fell down and is in the down position" 
  • ¾þ¾îÁ® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something fell and is flat on its face" 
  • ºÎ¼­Á® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something is broken"
  • ºüÁ® ÀÖ´Ù 
    => "something came off and is still off"

Note the differences between Á³´Ù and Á® ÀÖ´Ù:

Á³´Ù Á® ÀÖ´Ù
³ª¹«°¡ ³Ñ¾îÁ³´Ù.  ³ª¹«°¡ ³Ñ¾îÁ® ÀÖ´Ù. 
A tree fell.  A tree has fallen (and is still there). 
ÀüÀï ¶§ ÇѰ­´ë±³°¡ ºÎ¼­Á³´Ù.  ±× ´Ù¸®°¡ ¾ÆÁ÷µµ ºÎ¼­Á® ÀÖ´Ù. 
During the war, the Han River Bridge was destroyed. The bridge remains destroyed. 
³ª»ç°¡ ºüÁ³´Ù. ³ª»ç°¡ ºüÁ® ÀÖ´Ù. 
The screw came off. The screw is off. 
±æÀÌ Á¼¾ÆÁ³´Ù.  ±æÀÌ Á¼¾ÆÁ® ÀÖ´Ù.
The road became narrow.  The road got narrow (and is still narrow).

2.  A.V. + °íÀÚ ÇÏ´Ù 

=> "to try to," "to plan to," "would like to" 

This expression is used in a more formal context than -(À¸)·Á°í ÇÏ´Ù. 

  • ´Ùµé Çѹݵµ¸¦ °¡º¸°íÀÚ ÇÑ´Ù. 
    => Everyone tries to visit the Korean Peninsula.
  • ¿À´ÃÀº ¿©·¯ºÐÀÇ ÀǰßÀ» µè°íÀÚ ÇÕ´Ï´Ù. 
    => I would like to hear your opinions today.
  • ±× ±¹È¸ÀÇ¿øÀº ¹ýÀ» °íÃļ­ ÆòµîÇÑ »çȸ¸¦ ¸¸µé°íÀÚ Çß½À´Ï´Ù. 
    => The congressman tried to change the law and make a fair society.
  • ³»ÀϺÎÅÍ´Â Àú³á ¸Ô±â Àü¿¡ ²À ¿îµ¿À» ÇϰíÀÚ ÇÑ´Ù. 
    => I plan to exercise before dinner, starting tomorrow for sure.

3.  V. + ±âµµ ÇÏ´Ù

=> "it is also . . ." 


  • Çѱ¹ ÀüÀïÀº "À° ÀÌ¿À"¶ó°í ºÒ¸®±âµµ ÇÑ´Ù. 
    => The Korean War is also known as (the war of) "June twenty-fifth." 
  • ¿©¸§¿¡ º¸Åë ´þÁö¸¸ °¡²û Ãä±âµµ ÇÏ´Ù. 
    => It is usually warm, but sometimes it is cold in the summer.
  • ±× ¹Ýµµ´Â ¹«¿ª¿¡ Áß¿äÇÑ À§Ä¡À̱⵵ ÇÏ´Ù. 
    => The peninsula is also an important location for commercial transportation.

4.  N. + À»/¸¦ ºñ·ÔÇÏ¿©

=> "including," "beginning with"

This pattern is often followed by -±îÁö(µµ) and expresses the inclusion of "even that item." ¡¡

  • ±×ºÐÀº Ã¥Àб⸦ ÁÁ¾ÆÇؼ­ ¼Ò¼³Ã¥À» ºñ·ÔÇÏ¿© ¸¸È­Ã¥±îÁö ´Ù Àоî¿ä. 
    => Because she/he loves to read, she/he reads all kinds of books from novels to comics. 
  • ´ëÀü°ú ºÎ¿©¸¦ ºñ·ÔÇÏ¿© ÃæÃ»³²µµ¸¦ ´Ù µÑ·¯ºÃ´Ù. 
    => We toured all of the South Ch'ungch'ŏng Province, including Taejŏn and Puyŏ. 
  • ºÏÇÑ¿¡´Â ±Ý°­»êÀ» ºñ·ÔÇÏ¿© ¾Æ¸§´Ù¿î »êµéÀÌ ¸¹ÀÌ ÀÖ´Ù. 
    => There are many beautiful mountains in North Korea, including the Kŭmgang Mountains.

5.  N. + ¿¡ ÀÇÇØ(¼­)

=> "by," "in accordance with"


  • ¹ý¿¡ ÀÇÇØ¼­ ³²³à ÆòµîÀÌ º¸ÀåµÇ¾î ÀÖ´Ù. 
    => In accordance with the law, male-female equality is guaranteed.
  • Àû±º¿¡ ÀÇÇØ ÀüÀïÀÌ ½ÃÀ۵Ǿú´Ù. 
    => The war was started by the enemy. 
  • ¼±°Å¿¡ ÀÇÇØ »õ ´ëÅë·ÉÀÌ »ÌÇû´Ù. 
    => The president was elected by voting.

6.  N. + ÀÌ/°¡ ¾Æ´Ò ¼ö ¾ø´Ù

=> "it cannot be anything but," "it is such a . . ." 


  • µÎ ³ª¶ó·Î ³ª´µ¾î ÀÖ´Ù´Â °ÍÀº ºñ±ØÀÌ ¾Æ´Ò ¼ö ¾ø´Ù. 
    => Having a country divided cannot be anything but a tragedy.
  • ±× ¶§ ±× ¹°°ÇÀ» ¾È »ê °ÍÀº À߸øÀÌ ¾Æ´Ò ¼ö ¾ø¾î¿ä. 
    => Not buying the item at the time was such a mistake.
  • űǵµ´Â Çѱ¹ÀÇ ´ëÇ¥Àû ¹«¼úÀÌ ¾Æ´Ò ¼ö ¾øÁö. 
    => Tae kwon do can't be anything but a representative Korean martial art.
