INTRO

 

            The word for love in Filipino is pag-ibig and the ‘beloved,’ the object of affection is mahal, irog, sinta, liyag, hirang.

Malou:              Yes.  By the way, my name is Maria Luisa.  My nickname is Malou.

Malou:              The Macabentas are from Pampanga, but I grew up in Manila.

Malou:              My family moved here when I was five years old.

Malou:              They live in West Covina.  What about you, are you from here?

Lita:                  My father was first to arrive because he was in the Navy.

Lita:                  My parents speak Tagalog and Kapampangan at home.

Lita:                  It’s Tag-lish to my friends, and English in school.
