Grammatical Point II:  Gusto & Ayaw with Um-, Mag-, Ma- Actor Focus Infinitive Verbs

• When an INFINITIVE verb follows GUSTO or AYAW…..

            E.g.             Gusto +  ko  +  maglaro.    (I want to play.) 
                        Gusto              +  maglaro +  ni Jeff  (Jeff wants to play.) …

…the linker /–ng/ will be attached to the vowel-final word that immediately preceeds the infinitive.  Note the linker “-ng” on the vowel-final word that preceeds the infinitive “maglaro.”         
            Gusto  kong maglaro.                
            Gustong  maglaro ni Jeff.
            Note its absence on the consonant-final word before the infinitive.
            Ayaw ( ) maglaro ni Alice.                         Alice does not want to play.
            Ayaw ng doktor ( ) magtrabaho ngayon. The doctor does not want to work today.

• If the word preceding the infinitive ends in a ‘n,’

            Gusto + namin + maglaro  We want to play.

…write a  “-g” on  the previous word to produce the resulting “-ng” ‘sound’ before the infinitive.  Thus: Gusto naming maglaro.

10. Gusto ba magbakasyon ni Emilia sa Beijing o sa Ostralya?
